A Day in My Life: From Standups to Badminton
Deovrat Tiwari
Software Engineer

A glimpse into my daily routine—balancing gym sessions, distributed team collaboration across time zones, focused coding blocks, and evening inspiration.
Building software is more than just writing code; it's about the rhythm of collaboration and efficiency. Working with a team distributed between India and Australia shapes my day in a unique way.
Morning Rituals My day begins by hitting the gym—a non-negotiable ritual to clear my mind and wake up my body. Physical activity sets the tone for the mental marathon ahead.
The First Half: Collaboration & Synchronization Due to the time difference with Australia, my mornings are packed with high-bandwidth communication. I kick off with our daily standup, where I share my updates and actively listen to the team's progress. This is the prime time for synchronization. We often dive straight into Retro calls to reflect on what went well and identify areas for improvement, or tackle Backlog Refinement sessions to scope out future work. On alternate days, we have "Dev-only" calls—a dedicated space to discuss technical blockers, share individual progress, and geek out over the latest tech trends. This concentrated collaboration ensures everyone is aligned before the Australian team signs off.
The Second Half: Deep Work As the team calls wrap up, the second half of my day shifts gears into deep productivity. This is my "zone" time—focused coding, solving complex problems, and building features. I stay connected with teammates for ad-hoc help, but the primary focus is on execution.
Evening Unwind & Growth By 5:00 PM, I close my laptop and disconnect. I head out for a game of badminton, which is my perfect reset button. It separates the professional day from personal time.
Night Owl Inspiration My evenings are reserved for inspiration and growth. I read tech blogs, explore new ideas, and try to write down my thoughts. It's also when I dedicate time to personal learning, experimenting with new tools or concepts that peaked my interest during the day.
This balance of intense collaboration, focused coding, and personal well-being involves discipline, but it's what keeps me energized and passionate about what I build.
